Thyme Essential Oil
During the Middle Ages, Thyme was given as a gift to knights and battle hardened warriors by the ladies they were leaving behind; this was done because it was thought that Thyme gave the bearer more courage. Thyme was also used to promote better sleep at night, and to get rid of nightmares, by placing it under the pillow before retiring to bed. The ancient Greeks used Thyme as a bathing ingredient and as an incense to be burned in temples, while the ancient Egyptians used Thyme in their religious embalming rituals. Today, Thyme is largely used as a cooking spice, but may also be applied topically, or diffused.

Uses:

THYME ESSENTIAL OIL RECIPES

1.
Breakfast Quiche
Ingredients: 6 large eggs, 2-ounces feta cheese, 1–2 tablespoons butter, 1–2 Roma tomatoes, cut into ¼ inch half moons, 1–2 drops Thyme oil, 1 drop Rosemary oil, 1 quiche crust, homemade or pre-made, 1 small or medium zucchini, cut into ¼ inch rounds, 1 small or medium yellow crookneck squash, cut into ¼ inch rounds, 1 cup steamed broccoli florets, 1 cup steamed cauliflower florets, ¾ teaspoon salt, ½ pint whipping cream, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, ¼ to ½ teaspoon hot sauce
​Instructions: Preheat oven to 350° F. Prepare crust and bake until golden brown. Allow crust to cool completely. Dice veggies and cook for about 5 minutes. Melt butter in a medium sauce pan. Add veggies and coat evenly. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. Combine eggs, salt, pepper, whipping cream, hot sauce, and essential oils in a mixing bowl. Place veggie mixture into quiche crust.  Top with crumbled Feta cheese.  Pour egg mixture into quiche.  Arrange tomato slices on top of quiche.  Bake at 350° F for 40-70 minutes until egg mixture turns a golden hue and is set in the middle.  Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Cucumber Avocado Open-Faced Sandwiches
Ingredients: 1–2 avocados, 1 wedge semi-soft cheese with herbs, room temperature, 1 British cucumber, 1 small package microgreens, 1 drop Thyme oil, 1 loaf thinly sliced artisan multigrain bread, Salt and pepper, to taste
​Instructions: Cut cucumber into slices and set aside. Mash avocados with Thyme essential oil, and salt and pepper. Spread soft cheese on bread slices. Spread avocado mixture on bread slices. Arrange cucumber slices on bread and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.

Honey Thyme Roasted Carrots
Ingredients: 2 pounds carrots peeled, tops removed, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, 1 drop Thyme essential oil, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon butter, melted, 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ cup apricot preserves, ¼ teaspoon ground mustard, ¼ cup apricot preserves, ⅛ teaspoon ground cumin
​Instructions: Preheat oven to 375° F. Grease a baking sheet. Place carrots in the center of the pan. Combine all other ingredients in a mixing bowl. Pour over carrots. Place carrots in a single layer. Bake 30-45 minutes until tender. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately.
